The Fredericton Region Museum, formerly known as the York Sunbury Museum, is a small, non-profit museum founded in 1932 by the York Sunbury Historical Society. The museum was housed in several different locations until 1959, when it moved into Officers’ Square on Queen Street in Fredericton, New Brunswick. This year marks the 60th Anniversary in Officers’ Square. Each cache features an exhibit or historical figure. Find five caches to receive a limited edition Geocoin while quantities last.
Following the American Revolution, many of the British supporters, called Loyalists, were forced into exile. Starting in 1783, almost 15,000 came to the newly formed Province of New Brunswick. Later that fall, some moved to Fredericton to claim their land grants. They spent a hard winter with inadequate food, clothing and shelter. Their camp was at Salamanca, near the Princess Margaret Bridge. Having survived the winter, they set out to build a new life for themselves and their descendents.
