A Rede das Aldeias do Xisto é um projeto de desenvolvimento sustentável, de âmbito regional, liderado pela ADXTUR- Agência para o Desenvolvimento Turístico das Aldeias do Xisto, em parceria com 21 Municípios da Região Centro e com cerca de 100 operadores privados que atuam no território.

Estado presentes em quatro Unidades de Paisagem (Serra da Lousã, Serra do Açor, Zêzere e Tejo-Ocreza), as Aldeias do Xisto representam um belíssimo património cultural e natural. Com vastas possibilidades que vão desde a gastronomia à etnografia, das ruralidades e da ligação à natureza e à floresta, as Aldeias do Xisto têm enorme potencial turístico e não só.

O projeto Geocaching Aldeias do Xisto propõe aumentar a oferta de pontos de interesse associados a esta prática da caça ao tesouro do sec. XXI. Pretende dotar cada aldeia com pelo menos duas caches e integrar algumas já existentes em circuitos e percursos pedestres.

The Schist Villages area is a region of Portugal’s interior that has successfully been promoted to tourists. The brand is managed by the ADXTUR association, the Agency for the Touristic Development of the Schist Villages, and brings together 21 Municipalities of the central region of Portugal, and more than 100 private local operations, which all share the common strategy of promoting and revitalising an area where schist stone dominates the landscape.

Present in four Landscape Units (Serra da Lousã, Serra do Açor, Zêzere and Tejo-Ocreza), the Schist Villages represent a beautiful cultural and natural heritage. With vast possibilities ranging from gastronomy to ethnography, rurality and the connection to nature and to the forest, the Schist Villages have enormous touristic potential, among others.

The Geocaching Schist Villages Project proposes to increase the offer of points of interest associated with this practice treasure hunting of the XXI century. It intends to equip each village with at least two caches and integrate some already existent in circuits and pedestrian routes.

A azinheira (Quercus rotundifólia) vulgarmente conhecida por sardão ou carrasco, é uma espécie autóctone de Portugal.

Habita montados ou bosques, nas zonas mediterrânicas continentais ou subcontinentais. Em Portugal encontra-se em grande parte do território, excepto em climas temperados do norte e centro litorais, chegando a atingir uma altura até 25m, sendo o mais vulgar entre 8 a 12m.

A sua longevidade costuma ultrapassar os 300 anos, podendo chegar excepcionalmente aos 1000 anos.

Esta espécie é muito importante no sistema de agricultura de montados. A produção da sua bolota é utilizada na alimentação dos porcos. O fruto é comestível e pode ser assado como as castanhas ou misturado com cereais para fazer pão. http://www.florestar.net/azinheira/azinheira.html

The holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia) commonly known as lizard (sardão) and hangman (carrasco), is an autochthonous species of Portugal.

It may be found in montados or groves, in the Mediterranean continental or subcontinental areas. In Portugal, it is found in great part of the territory, except in temperate climates of the north and center coastal. It reaches a height up to 25m, the most common being between 8 and 12m.

Its longevity usually exceeds 300 years. Exceptionally it can reach 1000 years.

This species is very important in the farming system of montados. The production of its acorn is used for pig feed. The fruit is edible and can be roasted like chestnuts or mixed with cereals to make bread. http://www.florestar.net/azinheira/azinheira.html
