It seems ages since the last "Baggies at the Ben" event, held when West Bromwich Mountaineering Club members make their annual pilgirmage to snowy Scotland (or at least we hope there's snow and ice on the hills) at February half term and, indeed, 4 years have passed since the 2nd geocaching event was held.
Sadly it's 3 years since Signyred was able to make the trip and then couldn't organise anything as he spent much of the week in Glen Shiel and other places north in a motorhome, only hitting Fort William for one night. However, times move on and he is no longer the sole WBMC geocacher; indeed at least 2 others should be up in the town and will hopefully take the chance to meet up with some of the local cachers.
Although it is slightly more awkward to predict when the WBMC might be able to arrive at the event. It seems our evening meal is down to start at 7.30pm and so should finish around 9pm at the Ben Nevis Hotel, "The Grog & Gruel" (66 High Street, Fort William PH33 6AD) served as an excellent venue in 2014 and, with its better range of beers, attracted a greater number of attendees. It is also wheelchair accessible and I've cleared it's OK with them.
So I think the event log book should arrive just after 9.00pm, although folk can meet up at the venue before that of course. A good selection of food is served as well. see [http://www.grogandgruel.co.uk] for more information.
As usual I will try and set up a couple of new traditional caches for FTFers to have a go at, but the main problem is getting them reviewed and listed in time, so no promises they'll be available on the night. There will be a draw (& certificate) for the lucky FTF of the event, however.
I'll also bring some of my special geocoins for people to discover.
If you're in town or in the area please come along. Yam'll have a 'bostin' night' as they say in Dudley!
Actually this event continued the next day when 4 cachers met up at The Ben Nevis Hotel and exchanged stories and TB details. The first of my events that has spanned more than one day!!
