Harry George Bennett

George Harry Bennett was born in the 1890s in Pike Street, Shepshed, son of George & Elizabeth Hartingdon. They lived at 20 Talbot St Whitwick. In 1911 he was an apprentice fitter, he married Elsie Atkins in 1912 at the Methodist Church and lived at 190 Talbot Street.  He was one of the First 50 enlisting in Coalville in August 1914 into the 5th (1/5th) Leicestershire Battalian with the other 49 recruits. He spent nearly two months under canvas on the High Tor of Charnwood Forest, also training at drill hall in Loughborough and the Institute at Thringstone. In early 1915 he embarked to France from Coalville Station. He died in 1945 from Tuberculosis at Markfield Sanatorium, Leicestershire.
