The nearby Orroral Space tracking station was used from 1965 to 1985. After that it was decommissioned and all that now remains are the concrete foundations. In its heyday, it had a population of up to 200 people!
Here at GZ you will see the remains of the old sewage settlement ponds. Now, sewage treatment works may not be as exciting as large radio antennas, but without them, the beautiful pristine environment out here would have been ruined. This was therefore an important component to this once amazing facility. All that remains now are some of the holding walls, and don’t worry – the whole area is clean and safe. Indeed, this site is now also used to watch and monitor frogs!
