Geocache Description:

When I walk through a cemetery I enjoy looking at all the old tombstones, some with dates that are no longer visible, thinking of what it may have been like in their times.  How difficult life could be.  There was no such thing as an eight hour work week.  You worked until the job was done.  Times certainly are different than that in the 1850's, and I know I would not have liked to have lived during that time.  As a matter of fact, I wouldn't trade places with anyone here.

One of the monuments I saw when visiting this peaceful place was that of Joseph Henry Sweney.  Here is some interesting information on him. Joseph Sweney was born in Warren County, Pennsylvania on Oct 2nd, 1845

During the Civil War, he served in the Union Army as a Sergeant in Company K, 27th Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry. In 1880, he graduated from the law department of the University of Iowa, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Osage. From 1883 to 1891, he was a member of the Iowa State Senate, serving as president pro tempore in 1886. In 1889 he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-first Congress, serving until 1891. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.

This cache is in the cemetery but not near any of the grave markers. That being said, if there should be a burial service going on when you get to this spot it may be best if you come back some other time. As with all cemetery caches be respectful and no night caching.
