The early history in Queanbeyan saw many Blacksmith businesses thrive in an era before cars. Many of the Blacksmiths operated in a street running parallel behind Monaro Street and laneways popped up to gain access.Blacksmith Lane is an historic part of Queanbeyan's rich history.
Many of the laneways have names including the historical Poets Lane nearby where an application to Council was done in poetry and granted in the early days.The Blacksmiths have long gone now but the history remains.
