Geocache Description:

A recent trend in late-October candy-harvesting has been the trunk-or-treat events designed as a safer way for costumed children to get their goodies. This event-cache is meant to be a similar way for the children of geocachers to gather and meet each other, while collecting some amount of treats as well. Come out to Severson Dells Forest Preserve picnic shelter on Saturday from 4:00 – 4:30 PM for a good time of meet 'n' greet 'n' candy-eat!

Whether you're a costumed kid-cacher, a caching parent with trick-or-treating children, or even a caching grandparent who just enjoys granting grand grins to growing guys and gals, come out with the rest of us for this family-friendly, fun, fall, forest-frolic, fructose-feasting festival!

Adult geocachers should bring plenty of treats to share with all the kids. Consider passing out candy from a large-sized cache container, if you like. There are lots of picnic tables here, and each cacher can stake out a table and pass out treats as the kids roam around showing off their costumes. I don't know how many kids we'll have, so plan to bring plenty for the adults to trade afterward as well! (Since this is before the actual Halloween night, you can always pass out leftovers on that day, too.)
What I'm saying is: better extra than not enough!

We're going to try to do something different this year too. Bring a list of your DNFs and caches you suspect have gone missing or need maintenance/archival from this area. We'll see about putting a list together, divvying it out to interested cachers to go check on them (easy if you've already had that find), and then start posting the appropriate logs for Reviewers if necessary. There are several reasons a cache may not be getting the maintenance it deserves*, and this can be another way for us to help clean up our local game-board.

*
  • hider isn't an active cacher anymore :-(
  • hider prefers hiding caches and not maintaining
  • cache doesn't attract finders often, so hider forgets about it
  • cache is in an area that's too conspicuous
  • ... [fill in the blank] ...
