Backed by the Massif des Bauges, Bassens is a town of 4000 inhabitants located south east of the Chambérienne agglomeration.
In the past, Bassens was an essentially agricultural village.
In addition to traditional crops, grapes were also grown there.
In 1821, the commune with its exposure to the south produced 192 hectoliters of wine.
However the cultivable surface was too weak and the insufficient production already compared to the population.
It is probably in memory of this past and Savoyard wine produced here that the town has installed a press on the green space of
the multipurpose room.
This press, abundantly flowered in the summer, is a donation made to the municipality by his former mayor
You will find on-site picnic equipment and drinking water looking well behind the press. Our famous "Nivolette"
On the press is a copper plaque bearing the name of a former mayor of the town.
Looking for a microphone in a place steeped in history.
