Adossée au Massif des Bauges, Bassens est une commune de 4000 habitants située au sud est de l’agglomération chambérienne.

Par le passé Bassens a été un village essentiellement agricole. Outre les cultures traditionnelles on y exploitait également la vigne.

En 1821, la commune avec son exposition au sud produisait 192 hectolitres de vin.

Cependant la surface cultivable était trop faible et la production insuffisante déjà par rapport à la population.

C’est sans doute en souvenir de ce passé et du vin savoyard produit ici que la commune a installé un pressoir sur l’espace vert de la salle polyvalente.

Ce pressoir, abondamment fleuri à la belle saison, est un don fait à la commune par son ancien maire.

Vous trouverez sur place des équipements pour piquenique et de l’eau potable en cherchant bien derrière le pressoir. Notre fameuse « Nivolette »

Sur le pressoir figure une plaque en cuivre portant le nom d’un ancien maire de la commune.
