Geocache Description:

A Fine Pair Carlton-on-Trent

Number 1199 in a series of caches where a red telephone box is in close proximity to a post box.

The only rules are that they have to be able to be photographed together, be not more than 100’ apart and the phone boxes have to be red.

The letter box is a wall box made in the reign of George V. This particular box is one of many variants and features the small GR cypher. It was made by W.T. Allen & Co, London. It currently has a 'D' rating for variety with the Letter Box Study Group which means there are over 150 still in use across the UK.

The letter box is in the wall of The Old Smithy, a Grade II listed building, achieving the status on 11 August 1961. Take the time to look at the horse shoe. I am pretty sure there will not be another A Fine Pair in a building like this!

The Fine Pair series was originally started by wizardsmum but is now managed by mattd2k

If anybody would like to place 'A Fine Pair' of their own please do. I would just ask that you first visit www.afinepair.co.uk to request a number to avoid any duplication

mattd2k also keeps a public Bookmark List of this series. Once your cache is published please contact him via geocachingafinepair@gmail.com to have yours added
