Geocache Description:

Come explore KNC in the fall! The Kalamazoo Nature Center is unrolling nature's carpet of green, gold, red, yellow and brown for a caching extravaganza!  Come anytime on Sat October 27th.  New geocaches are being placed for this event and FTF goes to all who sign them on October 27th. We are rotating out some of the older caches and adding new ones to be found!

Join us for the fifth installment of the Geo Extravaganza! Spend all or part of the day at KNC geocaching!  Get ready for easy caches to find, creative caches, and caches that cause you to stretch your brains or your climbing muscles a little.  The event log will be available at the event tables to sign.  The scheduled portion of the event will be from 1 - 4 pm at the posted coordinates when seasonal snacks will be available.  We hope to see you there and hear about your day of caching!  We'll be focusing on new/refreshed cache placements around the Delano homestead and trails this year.

IMPORTANT TIMES:

  • 1 pm - 4 pm  Sara (RomanTwins) and Russ (RJ_Toot) available at the event at posted coords
  • 2:45 pm  Deadline to place your Closest to the Pin flag
  • 3 pm  Deadline to turn in your poker stickers and get your winning hand
  • 2 pm - 4 pm  Snacks available at the event tent
  • 3 pm - 4 pm  Poker run, Closest to the Pin, Door prizes awarded & event wrap up

Closest to the Pin contest: Come and sign in and we'll give you a flag to go stick in the ground at a set of coordinates. We're planning on awarding prizes to the 3 flags that are closest to the designated point. Flags should be placed by 2:45 PM, which is when we'll go and measure to see who are the winners.

Poker Run: Five of the new caches will be designated as poker stops, you'll go and collect a sticker from them, come back to the event site, and draw as many cards as you've collected unique stickers (up to 5). We're planning on awarding prizes to the top 3 poker hands. Those participating will need to return to the event site by 3 PM, at which point we'll close the collection of stickers and see who had the best hand with the cards they choose!  Bring something you can collect the stickers on, any scrap of paper will do!

Everyone should also walk away with a door prize -- so please do respond with a will attend so that we can plan the prize table accordingly!

Russ (RJ_Toot) and Sara (RomanTwins) will be hanging out at the event site from 1 pm - 4 pm.  If you have caching questions, GPS questions, or third-party geocaching software questions make sure you stop by and ask.  Bring your laptop if you would like some hands-on practice as well (wi-fi not available).

When you sign in at the event site -- you'll also receive a themed shiny disk to take home with you!

The caches for this event will be published the morning of October 27, and anyone logging a find on this day is welcome to claim a shared FTF!

Be prepared for a hike outside! Sunscreen, hats, water, bug/tick spray, hiking shoes, and maybe warm clothing(!) are highly recommended.

Bring a folding chair with you too, in case of tired legs after caching for the majority of the morning!
