Geocache Description:

Name this breed (one word)

Today almost every breed owes some of its genetics to this horse. Displaying one of the most well-recognized profiles in the horse world, this horse's physical loveliness is complimented by a hardy spirit & adaptable nature. The breed is so old that its actual origin is unknown. Based on evidence, there are several theories. They may have originated as wild equines in Syria, Southern Turkey & Iraq, along the northern edge of the Fertile Crescent. Another theory suggests that they came from the Southwestern part of Arabia sometime around 2500 BC – where they have since been bred for thousands of years as war mounts. It is also unclear when the first horse was domesticated or what they were used for. However by 1500 BC, these horses had not only been domesticated but mastered by tribes of the area. Built for speed and stamina, they are quick and efficient. A distinctive back shape and high set tail due to their 17 ribs, 5 lumbar vertebrae, and 16 tail bone formation.
