This event is a simple get-together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first direct wireless message sent from the United Kingdom to Australia.
In the Northern Welsh town of Waunfawr, on a cool and overcast night, the then Australian Prime Minister, Billy Hughes, outlined a message for Guglielmo Marconi to send to Australia by wireless. It was Sunday 22nd September 1918 and the Prime Minister had just arrived in the UK from the battlefields in Europe.
The message, a one-way communication delivered in Morse Code, was received by Mr Ernest Fisk who had an experimental wireless station in the attic of “Lucania“; his residence at the corner of Stuart and Cleveland Streets in Wahroonga.
Event Details:
- Date - Saturday, 22nd September, 2018
- Time - 12:00pm to 12:45pm
- Location - At or close to the Rotunda in Wahroonga Park
- Transport - Parking can be difficult around Wahroonga so it's probably best to come by train as Wahroonga Park is right next to the station.
- Food/Drinks - Wahroonga shops are close by if you need sustenance or a coffee.
Events are a great way to meet new people and make new friends with a common interest, pick up the latest information on equipment, techniques and software and share stories about the latest caching adventure. You may even pick up a hint or two on those annoying DNFs or puzzle caches you've been trying to solve.
