Please join the Maryland Geocaching Society and National Park Service / Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area staff and volunteers for a day of adventure and learning at the Newcomer House in Sharpsburg/Keedysville. MGS Members will provide tutorials to help new geocachers get started. Our site hosts will also be there to answer your questions. After the Geocaching 101 tutorials, you'll have an opportunity to explore the history and heritage of Antietam National Battlefield. This event is open to all, especially newcomers to the hobby of geocaching.
Schedule:
11:00 am - 12:30 pm - Geocaching 101. Learn the basics of the game, how to create a Geocaching.com account, use a phone app (iPhone or Android) or handheld GPSr, and understand the different types of caches available. You'll be able to download a phone app on site.
12:30 pm - 1:00 pm - Feel free to explore nearby during this break.
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Gather back at Newcomer House for a tutorial specifically about Lab Caches and how they differ from other types of geocaches.
