8:30-11:00 am
This is a natural area, and a potential future park property owned by Bend Park & Recreation District. BPRD will provide direction for the project and will have a volunteer waiver/sign in sheet for the event. Cachers will be removing and rolling barbed wire fence and picking up litter. The old fencing is not only challenging to walk over but an impediment to the wildlife. Litter is mostly broken glass, dumped trash and some items that blow in to the site.
It’s been a long time, if ever, since a CITO was held in Central Oregon. Go team! With our help, BPRD hopes to clean up this area and make it a safer and healthier habitat! (And best of all, one less fence to crawl under when caching!)
SCHEDULE:
We will meet at the cul-de-sac parking area, posted coordinates, from 8:00-8:30 am. From the parking area we will walk to the project site gathering trash as we go. At the fence site we will divide up responsibilities and remove the old barbed wire fencing. Once complete we will haul it out to the trailer provided by BPRD.
WEATHER:
Weather in mid-September is usually warm but as this is central Oregon, the weather can be unpredictable. Dress like you would for caching in the high desert.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING:
Cachers will need to dress for working outdoors and working with barbed wire. Leather or very sturdy gloves are recommended, along with closed toe hiking shoes/boots and older work clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Flip flops are not a great idea!
Also……
Drinking water (THERE IS NO WATER AVAILABLE OR RESTROOMS ON SITE)
Snack
Sunscreen
Possibly a hat
And don’t forget tools (if you have them)
Wire Cutters
Buckets
Screwdrivers
Wire for tying up the barbed wire
WHAT BPRD WILL PROVIDE:
Trash bags
Wire Cutters
Shovels
Buckets
Extra gloves
First Aid Kit
Trash Removal after the project
We know several of you are experienced with rolling barbed wire so we’re counting on you to organize the teams! THANK YOU! Also, because we’re working with barbed wire, children/teens must be accompanied by an adult.
After the CITO, Porkwatch is hosting a Meet and Greet, Where else can you get two EVENTS in one day? Lets help Porkwatch, Clean Up Some Pizza. GC7W3W9
