This is the entrance to the Quartier des Bosquets, an area that features the Plage des Américains. This is a beach appreciated by families with small children as it is one of the most quiet in the area. As other beaches that side the Arcachon Bay, the waves are very gentle. This is also a beach that will have some water at low tides, enough for children. The name of the beach (the "Beach of the Americans") comes from the fact that the US Navy had established a base there for seaplanes in 1917 during WW1. This base contributed to the protection of convoys in the Bay of Biscay. Source: http://www.infobassin.com/loisirs-culturels/histoire-de-laviation.html
