This is the wrap up car rally for GHAGAFAP Weekend.
We'll meet at 10:30 - 11:00 on Sunday September 9 at the coordinates listed above for a wrapup photo of Canada's longest running annual event.
If you'd like to stay after the photo for an extra little activity to cap off the weekend, we're going to hold a short car rally through the coutry side of Rockwood and the surrounding communities. Everyone is welcome to stay and participate. For those who participated in any of the annual RALLY RIDERS events, this wrapup rally will be a shortened version, limited to about a 20 - 25 km drive. For those who have never done a rally, I'm sure you'll have a fun time. A car rally is not a race, but it is a competition between cars. Each car is given a set of instructions at the beginning and using only clues provided on the instructions, the navigator determines where the next turn will be. This car rally is designed on the lower end of the challenging scale and is intended to be family friendly.
The car rally will consist a short scenic drive on an interseting route. Each car must consist of a driver and a navigator and as many kids as would like to join in on the fun. The navigator interprets the instructions and tells the driver when and where to turn. Your car will need a trip odometer that you'll set to 0 at the start of the rally. On each stretch of road, there is typically one thing that you have to find to answer a question on the instruction sheet. For instance, the instruction sheet may have a fill in the blank such as "_____ races here" and you'll drive by a track advertising "HAMSTER RACES HERE at 7PM" . You'll answer "HAMSTER" on the instruction sheet. Pretty simple stuff!
There are also checkpoints along the route where you'll have to do a non-athletic event for bonus points. For instance there may be a jar of pennies and you have to guess how much is in it. The closer you are, the more bonus points you get.
Ensure you bring your GPS. The instructions will contain a few items that you'll have to find based on coordinates, the same way we find caches.
This car rally will end at the same spot as the starting point.
The route should take about an hour to complete. There is no cost to join!
I hope you can all join...the more the merrier. We go rain or shine!
