Geocache Description:

Cache is not at listed coordinates. Read more to find out how to find it!

This cache is placed as part of the Idlewild Park Restoration Project by the GCGC (Greater Charlotte Geocaching Club) and has elements of various caches past and present that I have enjoyed finding in this park.  In addition to being the Geocaching Center of the Universe, Idewild Park sports hiking and bike trails, a popular and challenging disk golf course, and two baseball/softball fields that get much use by kids and adults.

One of the most exciting parts of baseball is the Home Run.  In order to make this find you will need to do a little Home Run research and a little math.  All answers based on the Baseball Almanac (which should be fairly easy to access online).

A = number of Career Home Runs hit by Barry Bonds
B = number of Career Home Runs hit by Hank Aaron
C = number of Career Home Runs hit by Babe Ruth
D = number of Home Runs hit during the 2001 season by Barry Bonds
E = number of Home Runs hit during the 1998 season by Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa combined
F = number of Home Runs hit during the 1961 season by Roger Maris
G = number of Home Runs hit by Hank Aaron during the 1959 and 1973 seasons combined

The actual cache coordinates are:
N 35 09.xxx
W 080 42.yyy

xxx = (A+B+D+E+F-G)/2
yyy = C/2

No special tools or climbing are needed to find this cache.  Please take care when retrieving and returning the cache to its' original location.  If you cannot return cache to the original location, please notify me in your log or with a message.

After finding the cache, take a look back at where the "bogus" coordinates are. The distance from where you are standing to the original coordinates is the approximate distance of some of the longest Home Runs on record. There are not verifiable statistics on lengths of historic Home Runs so they were not used in any of the calculations on this cache.  Nevertheless, you can't help but admire the long ball!
