Tiger Island
Back in the 1930's tigger island was the main bathing place in Abingdon. It is an island located just South of Abingdon weir. There were changing rooms and diving boards. Largely all that remains now is the steps up and concrete base for the changing rooms.
More information and a picture from 1939 can be found on the following link:
How to get the cache?
It is on an Island approximately 20m from the Abbey Grounds. Use common sense regarding safety equipment and flows.
The river is deep all the way around the island so you can't walk to it.
Access is most easy by boat - kayak or SUP is ideal. Suitable rowing boats can also be hired locally in Abingdon. Alternatively, it is a short swim from the Abbey Grounds. The park side does not have any motor boats. You should not attempt to swim from the lock side as that could be dangerous. Birds sometimes nest on the Southern tip of the island, there has been 2 large eggs for 5 year+. Bring a pen.
The challenge is not in the finding, but reaching and enjoying the journey.
Andersey Island Paddle Loop
This is on the Andersey Island Loop. Famous as one of the best 20 padding loops in Southern England. Up the Thames from Abingdon, past the lock, then down swift ditch then back. There are another 4 of my cache that can be collected only by boat. Make a day of it. There is a pool directly on the right once you pass the lock to pull in and get out. Allow 4 hours.
