Watching Dolphins at Chanonry Point
Our group of five geocachers from the Czech Republic will be traveling to Inverness and we'd like to meet with members of the local geocaching community as well as with other cachers passing by.
The most popular place to see dolphins is probably a good indicator of the best place to see them! That’s Chanonry Point between Fortrose and Rosemarkie on the Black Isle. This narrow peninsula is an ideal location with views across the Moray Firth to Fort George and with lots of fellow dolphin watchers you are unlikely to miss any sightings.
The best time to see dolphins is usually from when the tide starts to rise again after low tide although they may take some time to arrive. Dolphins are wild animals so there are no guarantees you will see them. However it's the correlation between low tide and optimal feeding conditions at Chanonry Point which mean there is a high success rate. The main viewing area is on a shingle beach behind the lighthouse which can be accessed by walking along the beach (tide permitting) or the path near the entrance to the small car park.
Let's meet at the given coordinates on 3nd July at 4:30-5:00 PM. At the coordinates look for the GC code. Our party will try to occupy one of three picnic tables there.
Meeting point
Our Event book will be waiting for you to log it. We'd really like to meet locals and talk to them about interesting places and/or caches to visit nearby. If you have any TB's willing to travel to the Czech Republic, Germany, or Italy we will be happy to take them with us.
Looking forward to meeting all of you
