How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The Cambridge virtual cache is a virtual replacement in spirit for the now-defunct World Cache (United Kingdom). This can optionally be played as a a cooperation cache designed, a team event with the team consisting of a member in each of six countries. Due to popular request, the optional part will be developed into a separate bonus - a mystery with a physical container - in the next weeks.

This cache is about objects that have been collected from abroad, and brought to museums in Cambridge (disclaimer: we do not generally endorse exporting artifacts):

The Fitzwilliam Museum and The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology: All Cambridge University Museums are free of charge, though donations are appreciated.

The objects, where they came from and related cache pages:
Cambridge UK: Cambridge University Museums by Datenkaros
Australia: ??? by Brad&Janet
France: A Clock by Les Pandas
The Netherlands: by Vooruit!
Portugal: A Cruzado by Jocasife
The United States of America: A Navajo Rug by Maxand99

How to find the cache:

To join a team for this series, write a note for this cache page saying you are available, or use the geocaching forum. You can then visit the other World Cache pages and looking for teammates, e.g. by reading the posts, but please do not post notes there yourself - contact potential teammates by e-mail or messaging. When you have formed a team, please post a final note on this page mentioning who is on your team, then delete your previous notes. When you log a find for this cache (meaning you have found the information about all stages), please list your teammates' Geocaching.com names, and you can also decide on a team name if you like. These requirements are to help ensure that each team has just one account per country. We know that dealing international relations is often frustrating, but thank you for your participation in this project of cultural diplomacy.

For the USA cache:

Please remember a one person - one person partnership between Cambridge and Oklahoma geocachers. Each person can only find the cache once.

Ask your Cambridge Caching partner to go to the Archaeology and Anthropology museum, and find the object id of the Navajo Rug.

Cacher in Cambridge: Goes to museum, finds Navajo Rug, and finds the object id of the rug (in the format abcd.efg) sends information to cacher in the US.

Once you get the object ID, send an email address in the following format: rug.abcd.efg@gmail.com, with abcd.efg being the object number of the rug. You will get an autoresponder message giving information leading to the coordinates. Find the cache, determine the secret code, and send it to your caching partner in Cambridge. Now you can log the cache as found. Due to population differences, at the Team's request, I will permit each US geocacher who finds this cache to assist two international teams (more, IF it comes to that).

Please remember, as per Geocaching guidelines: "As a geocacher, you should not sign the name of your teamwork partner in the log of your local cache. You can only claim a find if you visit the cache yourself."
