Geocache Description:

Viivakoodi on informaation esitysmuoto, jossa tietoalkiot koodataan optiseen koneellisesti luettavaan muotoon.

Lineaarisen viivakoodin rinnalle on kehitetty useita kaksiulotteisia (2D) koodeja, joissa pienelle alueelle saadaan mahtumaan enemmän tietoa. 2D-viivakoodit muistuttavat kuvioltaan shakkilautaa. Viivakoodien muunnelmia on useita. [1].

A barcode (also bar code) is an optical, machine-readable, representation of data; the data usually describes something about the object that carries the barcode. Traditional barcodes systematically represent data by varying the widths and spacings of parallel lines, and may be referred to as linear or one-dimensional. Later, two-dimensional (2D) variants were developed, using rectangles, dots, hexagons and other geometric patterns, called matrix codes or 2D barcodes, although they do not use bars as such. Initially, barcodes were only scanned by special optical scanners called barcode readers. Later application software became available for devices that could read images, such as smartphones with cameras.

Barcode was invented by Norman Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver and patented in US in 1952. The invention was based on Morse code that was extended to thin and thick bars [2].

Kyseessä on suhteellisen helppo neljän pisteen multimysteeri, jossa tutustut viivakoodiin tarkemmin.
This is a relatively simple four stage multimystery, in which you will get more familiar to bar codes.
