Geocache Description:

This is a field puzzle. You are looking for a regular sized container at Staatsburgh Historic Site. The photographs in the cache are to remain in the cache – do not take.

In the 1890s, Ruth Livingston Mills desired her ancestral home, Staatsburgh, to be expanded from its original 25-room Greek Revival style into something grander.  Stanford White of the renown architectural firm McKim, Mead and White transformed Staatsburgh into a 79-room Beaux-Arts style mansion we see today.

Not only was Stanford White known for his architectural and interior design skills, his name appeared on the front page of the June 26, 1906 edition of the New York Times.  Mr. White was murdered the night before by Harry Thaw, a Pittsburgh millionaire and husband of actress Evelyn Nesbit. The murder and trial was known as “the crime of the century”.  See the photos and articles in the cache for more details.
