Perguntas para responder - questions to answer
To claim this earthcache one should send me, through my profile and before any found log, the answers to the following questions. If something is incorrect I'll contact you. There is no need to wait for any authorization. Please do not send photos. These are more useful on the log.
At the earthcache coordinates one can see a geologic fold. At the fold northern point, where one can see the cross section and the several layers. Beware of tidal levels. Here or here you can choose the best time to come here. At high tide it is hard to see the phenomena or arriving with feet dry to say the least.
1 – Regarding north what is the fold axis orientation? Is it an anticline or sincline? Explain your answer using your own words.
2 – Is the upper layer at the fold surface complete? Meaning: does it complety cover the inner folds including the axis? Which of the following formations, Santa Justa, Valongo or Desejosa this layer belongs to? What is the thickness of the layer?
3 – What is the inner layer thickness? Is it only from one type of rock? Does it shows a compact structure or have a “thousand sheet” texture?
4 – At the highest point of the rocky outcrop of Pedras Ruivas, see waypoint Topo 01, one can stand on a quartzite. Someone wrote there Nelson. What is the predominant rock colour of the surface facing the sky? Can you see any fossil at this point? Take advantage of being at this point to observe the differences of the three outcrops.
Mandatory:
A photo for each log. Or clearly identified (a selfie) at ground zero or if you don’t wish a photo at ground zero that shows your nickname, date of visit and a foot on waypoint Topo 01.Please do not reveal the answers with this photo. Thank you for your visit.
