Eiben-Arten sind immergrüne Sträucher oder kleine bis mittelgroße Bäume. Die Nadeln sind spiralig am Zweig angeordnet. Die Samen reifen im Jahr der Befruchtung. Weibliche Pflanzen tragen im Herbst rote „Früchte“, die in der Mitte einen einzelnen Samen enthalten.
