Vanhan petäjän runko on täynnä palokärjen nokkimia reikiä, mutta petäjä sinnittelee edelleen Sammalvaaran kupeessa.
Talvisin sen ohitse hiihtää lukuisa määrä hiihtäjiä Juha Miedon, "Mietaan" Kuntoladulla, jolla Juha treenasi aikoinaan hiihtokilpailuihin, kesäisin latupohja toimii hyvin patikointiurana.
Kuntolatu ja -polku lähtee vanhalta Sammalvaaran ylittävältä Pallaksentieltä, jonne ei pääse autolla. Muutama sata metriä puomin jälkeen oikealle, reitti on merkitty kyltillä "Kuntolatu". Reitti on kolmen kilometrin ympyräreitti, joka kierretään talvella vastapäivään, kesällä sen voi kulkea kumpaan suuntaan tahansa.
Reitin varrella sijaitsee myös "Maahisen maja" -geokätkö.
Koska kätkö sijaitsee Pallas-Yllästunturin kansallispuiston alueella, liikuthan vain merkityillä poluilla ja otat luonnon huomioon. luontoon.fi (visit link)
Kätkössä on kynä ja lokivihko, muuta sinne ei mahdu.
ENGLISH
At Sammalvaara there is an old pinetree where are lot of holes made by woodbecker. The cache is nearby but not on/in that tree. At winter you can ski there and in summer there is a walking trail. It is marked as "Kuntolatu".
You have to leave the car at marked P-area at Pallaksentie and walk up the old road about 250 meters and turn to the rigth at "Kuntolatu" and follow that trail.
The area is part of Pallas-Ylläs national park and you have to use the trails and take care of the nature.
