La chiesa di S.Lucia (1179 - fine XIX sec.) si trova immediatamente fuori dall'abitato di Montescudaio, non molto lontano dalla Strada Provinciale dei Tre Comuni. L'edificio è prettamente di stile Romanico, ovvero pieno XII Secolo. L'abside è realizzata in conci di pietra di piccole dimensioni, posti in opera su filari orizzontali e paralleli di altezze differenti. In asse di simmetria centrale rispetto alla curvatura dell'abside, si apriva una monofora strombata verso l'esterno, oggi tamponata. I perimetrali Nord e Sud, strutturalmente legati ai cantonali dell'abside, sono invece realizzati in bozzette di differenti materiali, poste anche esse in opera su filari suborizzontali e paralleli, di aletzze dverse, L'area intorno alla chiesa è stata usata come discarica di materiali edilizi in epoca recente e non ha restituito reperti significativi. Divenuta dall'1800 cappelletta privata, da 30 anni a questa parte è in stato di abbandono ed è stata usata in modi più strani, da deposito, a pollaio fino a luogo utilizzato per messe nere. Recentemente un accordo tra il proprietario e l'amministrazione comunale avrebbe sancito un programma di recupero che però non sembra essere ancora iniziato.
Attenzione !!! L'ingresso potrebbe essere sconsigliato poichè la struttura sembra pericolante !!!
The church of S. Lucia (1179 - late 19th century) is located immediately outside the town of Montescudaio, not far from the Strada Comunale dei Tre Comuni. The building is purely of Romanesque style, full XIIth Century. The apse is made of small stone blocks, placed on horizontal and parallel rows of different heights. On the axis of central symmetry with respect to the curvature of the apse, a lancet window opened to the outside, now closed. The north and south perimeters, structurally linked to the apse cantons, are instead made of sketches of different materials, placed also in work on suboriginal and parallel rows of drift aliments, The area around the church has been used as a landfill building materials in recent times and has not returned significant findings. It has been a private chapel since 1800, has been abandoned for last 30 years and has been used in more strange ways, from storage, to chicken coop up to a place used for satanic function. Recently an agreement between the owner and the municipal administration would have sanctioned a recovery program which, however, does not seem to have started yet.
