Miradouro do Casal Novo Traditional Geocache

A Rede das Aldeias do Xisto é um projeto de desenvolvimento sustentável, de âmbito regional, liderado pela ADXTUR- Agência para o Desenvolvimento Turístico das Aldeias do Xisto, em parceria com 21 Municípios da Região Centro e com cerca de 100 operadores privados que atuam no território.

Estado presentes em quatro Unidades de Paisagem (Serra da Lousã, Serra do Açor, Zêzere e Tejo-Ocreza), as Aldeias do Xisto representam um belíssimo património cultural e natural. Com vastas possibilidades que vão desde a gastronomia à etnografia, das ruralidades e da ligação à natureza e à floresta, as Aldeias do Xisto têm enorme potencial turístico e não só.

O projeto Geocaching Aldeias do Xisto propõe aumentar a oferta de pontos de interesse associados a esta prática da caça ao tesouro do sec. XXI. Pretende dotar cada aldeia com pelo menos duas caches e integrar algumas já existentes em circuitos e percursos pedestres.

The Schist Villages area is a region of Portugal’s interior that has successfully been promoted to tourists. The brand is managed by the ADXTUR association, the Agency for the Touristic Development of the Schist Villages, and brings together 21 Municipalities of the central region of Portugal, and more than 100 private local operations, which all share the common strategy of promoting and revitalising an area where schist stone dominates the landscape.

Present in four Landscape Units (Serra da Lousã, Serra do Açor, Zêzere and Tejo-Ocreza), the Schist Villages represent a beautiful cultural and natural heritage. With vast possibilities ranging from gastronomy to ethnography, rurality and the connection to nature and to the forest, the Schist Villages have enormous touristic potential, among others.

The Geocaching Schist Villages Project proposes to increase the offer of points of interest associated with this practice treasure hunting of the XXI century. It intends to equip each village with at least two caches and integrate some already existent in circuits and pedestrian routes.

À passagem pelo estradão, quase que nos escapa a presença do Casal Novo. A aldeia desenvolve-se na dobra da encosta, em declive acentuado, orientando-se a Norte, e a envolvente arbórea da aldeia não permite perceber o seu perfil.

A malha urbana corresponde, quase exclusivamente ao eixo criado pelo caminho que atravessa a aldeia no sentido ascendente-descendente, e que a liga ao Santuário de Nª Srª da Piedade. Duas ou três vielas perpendiculares, e umas quantas entradas laterais em espaços de fruição pública, quebram o contínuo de construções que, de um e do outro lado, se encavalitam.

Da eira da aldeia pode observar-se a Lousã e o seu castelo.

Passing along the unpaved road, the presence of Casal Novo almost escapes us. The village lies in a fold on the steeply sloping, north-facing hillside and the woodland surrounding the village hides its outline.

The village layout amounts to little more than an axis created by the road that crosses the village in an up-down direction, and which links it to the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy. Two or three perpendicular lanes, and as many lateral accesses to public spaces, break the continuum of buildings which piggyback on one another on either side.

From the village threshing floor can be seen Lousã and its castle.
