La única plaza de Martínez posee una superficie de 8500 m2 y se encuentra entre las calles Monseñor Larumbe, Beruti, Córdoba y Necochea.
Martínez, desde el año 1871 tenía su estación. Más tarde, el ingeniero Alberto Beverini proyectó la plaza.
Originalmente, la plaza estaba cercada con hileras de alambre para evitar el ingreso de vacas o caballos y en las 4 esquinas había un molinete, que permitía el ingreso de los vecinos.
Fue fundada e inaugurada el mismo día que dio origen a su nombre: el 9 de Julio, en 1911, siendo intendente municipal Don Andrés Rolón. La Comisión a cargo de la misma fue presidida por D. Jerónimo Barbosa.
En ese momento, enfrente de la plaza, en la manzana que poco después ocuparía la Parroquia Santa Teresita, había una laguna.
