Geocache Description:

This is version 2 of this wherigo geocache after the first one was archived following a by-law change in the city of Yarra. Importantly, you can continue to use the same cartridge as the version 1, so if you were half way through the cartridge, you don’t need to start all over again. Simply continue to use the cartridge and when you complete all 5 of the confluences that are required, the cartridge will tell you a set of co-ordinates of the geocache.

Importantly, the geocache is now no longer at this location.

However, if you add the co-ordinates that you get out of the cartridge, into this geochecker, then it will spit out the new location of this new geocache.

For those of you who have completed the previous version (and still have the final location stored), this should be a pretty easy one. For those who are half way through completing the cartridge, there is no need to delete the cartridge, you can still find a geocache at the end of it.

The geocache is not at the posted co-ordinates.

That would just be plain silly – and wet!

The Degree Confluence Project is a “play anywhere” wherigo cartridge that challenges you to find 5 Degree Confluences.

What is a degree confluence?

That’s a good question.

The beginnings of the hunt for degree confluences predates the beginnings of geocaching by about 4 years and centers mainly around one particular website, http://confluence.org. According to this website, a degree confluence is “the exact spot where an integer degree of latitude and an integer degree of longitude meet”, such as the posted co-ordinates for this geocache, S38 00.000 E145 00.000.

To find this geocache, you will need to download this wherigo cartridge and take it to at least 5 separate degree confluences. It doesn’t matter where in the world the degree confluences that you take it to are, they can be on land, at sea, or at the poles of the earth. You just need to visit 5 (although you can visit more if you wish, the cartridge will recognize up to 26 recorded confluences).

At each location that you visit, fire up the wherigo cartridge, choose the “GPS Sensor” from your list of items and your current location will be displayed on the screen. Make your way to the confluence and when you are there the cartridge will display a congratulation message and the fact that you have found that confluence will be recorded. You can check which confluences you have visited previously by looking at another item in your inventory called “Results List”. This will give you a list of confluences that you have already visited. The cartridge doesn’t allow you to claim a visit to the same confluence twice though.

The first important thing to be aware of is that each time that you fire up the wherigo cartridge it will give you an option to “Play” or to “Resume”. It is extremely important to select the “Resume” option as selecting ”Play” will begin the cartridge from the start again and you will lose all information regarding previous confluence visits that you have already visited and you will need to start from the beginning again.

The second important thing is to realize that some confluences are on private land and that if you are going to attempt to visit a confluence that is on private land, you must get the permission from the land owner before visiting. Do not go onto private land if you do not have permission to do so! There are also plenty of confluences that are on public land and many out at sea (if you have a boat).

This cartridge is not designed to be completed all in one day. The cartridge will automatically save itself every time you register a visit at a confluence. Feel free to quit and close down the cartridge after each visit, but remember to select “Resume” when you next load the cartridge up again.
