Geocache Description:

It's early February and Superbowl time!  For many (like myself), it's the biggest football game of the year.  For many others, the Superbowl means fun commercials and, above all, the now iconic halftime show.  Gone are the days of a marching band (yes, that was the type of halftime show for decades), now the biggest names in the music business are the norm on Superbowl Sunday night.  This geocache gives tribute to some of the best known shows over recent years.  Every picture is an active link that you can click on for a hint or to re-live at least a little of the show in the clue.  Also know that when a clue refers to a Superbowl number, go by the 'usual' number, even though almost all Superbowls are referred to by Roman numerals.  So if we're talking Superbowl 41, we mean "41", not "XLI".

A.  This year, Superbowl 51 was in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Justin Timberlake performed.  Rumours abounded over who he would choose his "guest artist" to be.  In the end there was no guest, no Prince hologram (as runoured), but a tribute to Prince there in Prince's home state.

Prince had, arguably, the best halftime performance of all time.  Regardless of whether youn like Prince's music or not, it poured in Miami for the first time in Superbowl history.  Prince embraced the weather... all the better for his non-lip synched edition of Purple Rain.

For A, find that Prince appeared in Superbowl XY.  A=X  +  2Y.

B.  Ok, let's get this one out of the way.  Nipplegate.  In Superbowl 3B, Justin Timberlake sang that he'd "have ya anked by the end of this song", and a debate raged on:  Was it intentional?  Timberlake said no, it was a "wardrobe malfunction".  Sorry, Justin.  I'm still not buyin' that story!

C.  Rest in Peace, Tom Petty.  You got your chance to be the entertainment back at Superbowl XY.  For C, do C = X - 2Y.  Great show.

D.  Keeping with the classic American rockers, The Boss, Brusce Springsteen got his opportunity in Superbowl X3.  D=2X.

E.  For Superbowl XY in 2002, the NFL went across the pond to get U2 to play.  After 9-11, questions abounded how the show would be presented, and U2 didn't disappoint as a class act.  E=Y/X.

F.  Alllllll of Lada Gaga's Little Monsters applauded when she played Superbowl XY.  Amazing.  Now, F = X+Y.

G.  In the Superbowl G7 halftime show, Michael Jackson made the crowd wait until he was ready to begin.  The rest is performance history.

H.  If you've seen our cache that gives props to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, you know that we were going to bring up their appearance as guests of Bruno Mars in Superbowl 4H.  They may not have been plugged in, but it was still great to see them on the Superbowl halftime stage.
