This cache is part of the Linn Creek Trail: Marshalltown History series. Follow the bike trail to a series of caches highlighting prominent figures in Marshalltown history. Each cache will require you to leave the trail and search for a hidden cache. The caches in this series vary in difficulty and terrain.
Maurice (Maury) Kent (1885 – 1966)
Maury was born in Marshalltown and developed into a talented athlete. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1908 after playing football for the Hawkeyes. Upon graduation he played baseball for several local teams then pitched for the minor league Birmingham Barons. He was drafted and pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1912-1913 season.
After retiring from professional baseball, Kent went on to coach collegiate baseball, football, and basketball teams at University of Iowa, Iowa State, Carleton, and Northwestern. He also coached baseball at the University of Wisconsin.
