Hundreds of years into the future, the last human survivors have discovered how to send consciousness back through time, directly to people in the 21st century. These "travelers" take the lives of seemingly random people while secretly working on teams to perform missions, in order to save mankind from a terrible future. These travelers are: FBI special agent Grant MacLaren, the team leader; Marcy, a young woman who suffers from mental disabilities and who is under the care of her social worker, David; Trevor, a high school athlete; Carly, a single mother in an abusive relationship; and Philip, a college student addicted to heroin. Armed only with the knowledge of history and a file of social media profiles, travelers discover that life and relationships in the 21st century are as challenging as their risky missions.
