ÁRVORE CENTENÁRIA: TERIA SIDO O IMPERADOR D. PEDRO II O 1° GEOCACHER BRASILEIRO ?
Esta é a Figueira Centenária de Rio das Ostras, uma árvore centenária localizada à beira-mar que, segundo relatos históricos, serviu de abrigo ao Imperador D. Pedro II quando visitou o Arraial de Rio das Ostras, em 1847, sendo recebido com bandas de música e folguedos, conforme noticiaram os jornais da época.
Em 2000, a Figueira foi revitalizada pela prefeitura da cidade, ganhando bancos ao seu redor, possibilitando o descanso de moradores e visitantes que por ali param para apreciar a costa e observar a paisagem da praia.
Porém, em Maio de 2017, a árvore sofreu com a incidência de fortes chuvas e ventos na região, o que acabou por comprometer parte de sua estrutura, resultando em sua queda parcial, como noticiado nos links a seguir:

Mesmo assim, a árvore permanece firme e forte, um símbolo histórico que resiste ao tempo.
Na cidade, lendas urbanas dizem que há um pequeno registro do local, realizado e escondido pelo próprio imperador em pessoa, durante seu descanso sob a árvore...
Teria sido ele o primeiro geocacher brasileiro ? Este é um mistério que perdura até os dias atuais...

A cache situa-se na Figueira Centenária, que fica no calçadão da Praia do Centro, em frente à rua Maria Letícia, e entre as praças José Pereira Câmara e São Pedro.

This is a geocache that describes a passage of the history of the city of Rio das Ostras, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

THE CENTENNIAL TREE: WOULD THE EMPEROR D. PEDRO II HAVE BEEN THE 1st BRAZILIAN GEOCACHER ?
This is the Fig Tree of Rio das Ostras, a centennial tree located at the shoreline. According to historical registries, it was used by Emperor D. Pedro II (the last Emperor of the Empire of Brazil) as shelter, during his visit to the Arraial of Rio das Ostras, in 1847. He was received with music bands and revelry, according to the newspapers of the epoch.
In 2000, the Fig Tree was revitalized by the city prefecture, with new benches all around it, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the view of the coast and the beach.
But, in May 2017, the tree suffered with the incidence of strong winds and heavy rain in the region, which caused the breakdown of part of its structure, resulting in a partial fall of the tree, as registered on the local news (in the links below, in portuguese):

Even so, the tree stands firm and strong, a historical symbol that resists time.
In the city, urban legends say that there is a small record of the place carried out and hidden by the emperor himself, during his rest under the tree...
Was he the first brazilian geocacher? This is a mystery that continues to this day...
CACHE LOCATION
This cache is located at the Centennial Fig Tree, on the boardwalk of Praia do Centro, in front of Maria Letícia street, and between José Pereira Câmara and São Pedro squares.
