ÁRBOL DE GERNIKA
El árbol de Gernika es un Roble ubicado en el corazón del conjunto arquitectónico de las Juntas Generales de Bizkaia. La tradición situa en el siglo XIV como la época de nacimiento del árbol más antiguo. Antiguamente, bajo su sombra se celebraban las más importantes ceremonias civiles y en la actualidad aún es el centro de eventos importantes de la vida política vasca, como la toma de posesión y juramento del cargo de Lehendakari y del Diputado General de Bizkaia. Bajo sus ramas, Los Señores debatían y solucionaban los problemas del Señorío de Bizkaia. Hay constancia de que en 1.476, Fernando II y en 1.483, Isabel I “la Católica”, juraron los fueros. En 1.839, la regente María Cristina, juró los Fueros en representación de la Reina Isabel II Gernika fue constituida por el Conde Don Tello en el año 1. 366 y en la Guerra Civil Española fue devastada el 26 de abril de 1.937, no así la Casa de Juntas o el Árbol de Gernika que sobrevivió casi intactos. Su supervivencia al bombardeo contribuyó aún más a convertir un roble en todo un símbolo del Pueblo Vasco.

GERNIKAKO ARBOLA (The tree of Gernika in Basque) is an oak tree located next to the Assembly House of Gernika. It is said that the first tree was born in the XIV century. Formerly, the most important civil ceremonies were celebrated under the shadow of the tree and even nowadays a lot of basque political events are celebrated there, such as the swearing of the Lehendakari. The lords used to discuss and solve the problems of the Lordship of Biscay under the branches of the tree. There is proof that in 1476 Ferdinand II and in 1483 Isabella I of Castile swore the regional code of laws. Also in 1839 regent Maria Christina swore the regional code of laws in the name of Queen Isabella II. Gernika was founded by the Count Don Tello in 1336 and it was almost destroyed during the Spanish civil war in 1937 april 26th. Luckily the tree and the Assembly House survived the bombing and that helped to make the oak tree a symbol of the Basque Country.
GERNIKAKO ARBOLA Gernikako Batzar Etxearen aurrean dagoen haritza da. Tradizioaren arabera XIV. mendean jaio zen lehen zuhaitza. Lehengo denboretan, zuhaitzaren gerizpean zeremonia zibil garrantsitzuenak ospatzen ziren, gaur egun ere, hainbat euskal gertakizun politikoen topagunea izanik, Lehendakariaren eta Bizkaiko Diputatu Nagusiaren karguaren zin egitea, besteak beste. Zuhaitzaren adarren azpian Jauntxoek Bizkaiko jaurerriko arazoak eztabaidatzen eta konpontzen zituzten. Jakina da 1.476an Fernando II-ak eta 1.483an Elisabet Ia Gaztelakoak foruak zin egin zituzten. 1.839an Maria Cristina erreginaordeak, foruak zin egin zituen Elisabet II.aren izenean. Gernika Don Tello kondeak fundatu zuen 1.366. Urtean. eta Espainiako gerra zibilean guztiz suntsituta geratu zen 1.937ko apirilaren 26an. Hala ere, Batzar Etxea eta Gernikako Arbola bizirik iraun zuten. Horrek, haritz hau Euskal Herriaren sinbolo izatera eraman zuen.
