MaxB is hosting an Australia Day Event on Saturday January 27th from 1pm to 2 pm, (or longer as folks wish to hang around and visit) at the Niles Pizza Hut. This coincides with the Groundspeak Souvenir promotion and the 10th Anniversary since MaxB visited and geocached in Australia and New Zealand. Attendees are not required to order food, but may get lunch and each is responsible for their own bill. Please post a “will attend” so we can give the restaurant an estimated headcount.
In 2008, MaxB visited Australia and New Zealand for a once in a lifetime trip. MaxB visited Sydney, Tasmania, Adelaide, Kangaroo Island, Historic Port Arthur Prison Camp, Mount Field Nat’l Park, Olympic Park, the Blue Mountains, Remarkable Cave and many other fabulous locations.
We saw some incredible wildlife including Platypus – at the Possum Cafe, Pademelon, Kangaroo, Blue Fairy Penguins, Koala, Sea Lions, Kookaburra, Cockatiel flock, and Echidna. We didn’t see any in the wild but also saw Xing signs for Tasmanian Devils, and Wombats.
We also had the pleasure of meeting some Aussie Cachers, including official events in Adelaide and New Zealand, plus an unofficial gathering in Hobart. A few of our international caching friends include SA Parrothead, Firesafe, Griffo, Cheesy Pig, ZorkV, Snuva, Freddo and Barra. Several we have meet here in the US since our visit.
We picked the location remembering the pizza joint around the corner from our Sydney Hotel where we would walk and pick up dinner from the Irish shop owner.
