Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the series of caches named after classic works of literature, hidden by aramil_au and runner5ive. This cache is named after “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding.

What is the worst part of camping? It’s the flies. They are nefarious and evasive. They buzz past your ear and you wonder how can something so small be so noisy. Flies are of the order Diptera, which includes mosquitoes. There is an estimated 1 million species in the order of Diptera, with an estimated 30,000 living in Australia. You’re probably most familiar with the Musca vetustissima, or the Australian Bush Fly. They usually breed in animal dung, and they are very attracted to dung. Therefore it is mostly the female bush fly that you’ll be bothered by, as she is looking for protein. This is a really nice area of the Heritage Walk. You might be starting at the Orroral campground or you may be passing through it from the opposite direction. Enjoy the views along this walk, and enjoy the location of this cache. Please bring a pen because we forgot to put one in when we placed the cache. And BYO Aeroguard.
