La Escuela Normal Rural «Juan Bautista Alberdi», dependiente de la Facultad de Humanidades, Artes y Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad Autónoma de Entre Ríos fue creada en el año 1904 durante el mandato en la Provincia de Entre Ríos del Gobernador Enrique Carbó, en este entonces estaba como Director General de Escuelas el Profesor Manuel Antequeda.
«Alberdi» es una Escuela Normal para maestros rurales con anexos de carácter agropecuario e industrial. Es la primera de ese tipo en Latinoamérica, inaugurada el 17 de julio, se ubica en un predio de la estancia «Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles» del ex Gobernador Febre, utilizándose su casco como sede de la misma.
En la actualidad los alumnos no son sólo jóvenes campesinos, como lo fue hace décadas, sino que también provienen de áreas urbanas y suburbanas; la Escuela les ofrece además de educación general, experiencias y aprendizajes productivos en diferentes sectores tales como: huerta, tambo y agricultura, granja e industria. Todos los productos se destinan al consumo interno y a la venta al público.
La Escuela Alberdi hasta el año 2000 dependía del Consejo General de Educación de la Provincia de Entre Ríos, a partir de ese momento pasa a formar parte de la Universidad Autónoma de Entre Ríos y en el año 2004, dentro de ella, a la Facultad de Humanidades, Artes y Ciencias Sociales. Actualmente la Escuela Secundaria Pre-Universitaria y el Nivel Universitario funcionan en forma diferenciada en lo académico y en lo administrativo, pero compartiendo espacios y servicios estudiantiles.
