Mata Nacional do Choupal – Parco Della Vernavola

A Mata Nacional do Choupal administrada pelo Instituto de Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas, é uma extensa área verde na zona limite urbana da cidade de Coimbra junto à estação ferroviária de Coimbra-B na margem direita do rio Mondego.

O conjunto arborizado nasceu da necessidade de distribuir e regular o caudal do Rio do Mondego no seculo XVIII com o objetivo de evitar as recorrentes enchentes e inundações na cidade.

Com uma extensão de 79 hectares a mata oferece vários “serviços” aos seus visitantes, é sede do Clube de Ténis do Choupal que possui cortes de ténis em relva e padel; ringue de basquetebol, voleibol, badminton, futsal, entre outros; circuito marcado de manutenção com estações de exercícios (percurso circular) possibilitando intensidades variáveis; parque de merendas com bar-esplanada de apoio; sanitários e estações de observação da natureza e áreas lúdico-pedagógicas.

Existem ainda trilhos ao longo de toda a mata que proporcionam um encontro quase místico com a flora e fauna presente formulando um espaço único tanto para a pratica desportiva como para simples passeio pela natureza viva.

O Parco Della Vernavola, assim como a Mata do Choupal, é um corredor verde situado no limite urbano da cidade italiana de Pavia.

Pavia, assim como Coimbra, é uma cidade de média dimensão possuindo uma das mais antigas e prestigiadas universidades da Europa. Localizada no norte de Itália a cerca de 15 km de Milão, a sua vivencia gira em torno da universidade e do complexo hospitalar, tornando-se claras as semelhanças com Coimbra.

Por lá passaram pessoas ilustres como Camilo Golgi, Albert Einstein, Alexandre Volta, e eu próprio durante ERASMUS xD

Tal como é possível fazer uma analogia entre as cidades também estas duas importantes zonas verdes se partilham características comuns.

O Parco é um abrigo à fauna típica do norte de Itália podendo-se observar com grande frequência animais como perdizes, faisões, lebres, cisnes, garças, patos, tartarugas, ratões-de-água etc… Os mais relevantes espécimes de flora estão identificados assim como no Choupal permitindo um passeio “botânico” no mesmo, existindo ainda percursos de exercícios, parques de merendas e estações de observação da natureza.

Assim pela semelhança entre estas duas localidades nasce esta cache, sendo, sem duvida, os meus locais favoritos em ambas as cidades.

National Park of Choupal - Parco Della Vernavola

The Choupal National Forest managed by the Institute for Nature and Forestry Conservation is an extensive green area in the urban boundary of the city of Coimbra near the Coimbra-B train station on the right bank of the Mondego river.

The wooded set was born from the need to distribute and regulate the flow of the Mondego River in the 18th century in order to avoid recurrent floods in the city.

With an extension of 79 hectares the forest offers several "services" to its visitors, it is soothes of the Tennis Club of the Choupal that has courts of tennis and padel; basketball rings, volleyball, badminton, futsal, among others; marked maintenance circuit with exercise stations (circular path) allowing varying intensities; picnic area with bar-terrace of support; toilets; observation stations of nature and ludic-pedagogical areas.

There are still trails throughout the forest that provide an almost mystical encounter with the flora and fauna present, formulating a unique space for both sports and/or simple nature walk.

The forest also houses the headquarters of the Paul de Arzila Natural Reserve - ICNF.

The Parco Della Vernavola, as well as the Choupal Forest, is a green corridor located on the urban border of the Italian city of Pavia.

Pavia, like Coimbra, is a medium-sized city with one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe. Located in the north of Italy about 15 km from Milan, its society revolves around the university and the hospital complex, making clear the similarities with Coimbra.

There passed distinguished people like Camilo Golgi, Albert Einstein, Alexandre Volta, and myself during ERASMUS xD

Just as it is possible to make an analogy between cities, these two important green zones also share common characteristics.

The Parco is a shelter to the typical fauna of the north of Italy being possible to observe with great frequency animals such as partridges, pheasants, hares, swans, herons, ducks, turtles, water rats etc ... The most relevant specimens of flora are identified as well as in the Choupal allowing a "botanical" walk in it, there are also exercise routes, picnic parks and nature observation stations.

Thus, due to the similarity between these two locations, this cache is born, being, without a doubt, my favorite places in both cities.
