Plānupe`s radio communication center "Сосна" (meaning "Pine")
In the beginning of 1970s, during the restructuring of the national communication system, it was decided to create a new, modern and combined radio communication center, which could operate both in USSR Defense Ministry radio broadcasting system, USSR Transport Ministry system and serve as a spare communication station for LSDR (Latvian Social Democratic Republic) Railway Traffic control.
The construction of this standard radio communication center started in 1978 and continued for 2 years, until the beginning of 1981, when it already started operating. Identical radio communication centers can be found not only in USSR, but also in every country of Warsaw Bloc, sometimes as multi-storey underground buildings. For example, in Lamsfeld (Germany) the radio communication bunker is with a completely identical layout, but in 2 storeys. Of course, the communication center was properly hidden due to strategic reasons.
In all the maps of General Headquarters which have been published after 1978, the communication center or the field of antenna are not being displayed. The place in maps is called "cattle yard" or in Russian - "скотный двор", the bunker itself is hidden under a mock-up of a white colored barn, in which, of course, cows were never kept. The mock-up was there until 1992, when it got dismantled as the Military Forces of the Russian Federation left the Latvian country. In those territories there can still be found remains of particle boards which are surplus of these "farm buildings".
The cache is hidden underground, so the coordinates are approximate. The first you need to find the entrance, go underground and you can start exploring.
The cache is located at the far end of the first big room on the left. Please be aware of the holes and loops in the ground, under water. Flash light and rubber boots are a necessity.
