Welcome to my first cache. The coordinates given will place you at a historical marker. On this property you will find one of the most unique structures in KY. It is unique because of its architecture. This building is on the National Registry of Historical Places. It was completed before the War between the states and used by both sides. At one time, approx. 12,000 Confederate soldiers camped here and on surrounding property. Tours start March 5,2025. The building is open Wed.-Sat. from 10:00AM to 3:00 PM. It houses a museum of artifacts and displays from the Civil War period. Tours are $10.00 for 12 and up, $5.00 for 6-11, under 5 is free. You do not have to pay/take tour in order to log the cache. There is also a library of KY/TN reference materials and some geneology records. If you visit here, please tell them how you came to find out about the place. **To verify your visit e-mail me any ONE of the following four things: (1)Name and date on plaque next to front door. (2)Type of tree in NW corner of yard that is fenced in. (3) What brick bldg. directly behind main bldg was used for. (4) Type of tree that is approx. 100ft from highway on rt. of driveway. or a picture of property. Please don't reveal any of these things when you log your find. (Others could log a find without going there if they knew what to report)........ It is with much sadness that I report the passing of Billy D. Byrd on Nov. 18, 2021. He served as executive director of the Octagon House Museum Foundation since 2001. Our sympathy to his family.
