Geocache Description:

The Linoma Lighthouse

In 1924, the Linoma Beach resort at the old quarry site opened. The new resort was situated about halfway between and about 30 miles (50 km) from Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska's two largest cities; its name is a portmanteau, taken from the first three letters of each of the two names.

In 1939, a 100-foot (30 m) lighthouse was constructed beside the highway. The base of the lighthouse was a glass-and-masonry filling station. A central spiral staircase led to observation decks on the second and tenth stories; the tenth-floor deck ran around the lighthouse's beacon. The rooms above the first story have plumbing, stoves, and windows; although there is no documentation to support the conjecture, it is likely that they were intended for overnight guests.

In 2003, Linoma Beach was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The lighthouse was judged especially significant, as representative of a vanishing type of early twentieth century roadside architecture.

How to claim this cache:

There are two things you must do to claim this cache. Both are required to keep your smiley. Once you complete both tasks, you may claim the find without waiting for my response. I may or may not reply to your message.

1. Upload an image of your trip to Linoma Lighthouse that has in the background something unmistakable as Linoma Lighthouse - such as the lighthouse, the wall, or a sign. There are parts of this area that are private property. Please respect all signs in the area. The picture must also include any one of the following:

         A. Your left hand with your favorite Geocaching treat or snack cake, everyone claiming the cache with you must be doing this action to log
                  - or -
         B. A full-body picture (faces not required) of everyone claiming the cache with their left-hand on their head.
                  - or -
         C. A written sign/note with your caching names and the date visible. No photo-editing allowed!

Remember: Whichever option you choose, make sure something unmistakable as Linoma Lighthouse is in the picture background

2.  Send me a message using the Geocaching.com messaging feature (not an email) that contains the answers to the questions below. You may send a single message for your caching group (include everyone's caching names), but note that I'll check your pictures for people, left hands, or caching names and dates.

Questions:

1. How many square windows are around the outside of the lighthouse?
2. How many round holes are in the platform at the top of the lighthouse?
3. In what year was the lighthouse added to the National Register of Historic Places?

No armchair logging will be tolerated. If your log or message does not conform to the requirements, I'll let you know and give you an opportunity to fulfill the requirements before I delete your log. Also, do not put the answers in your online log, even if encrypted; in this case, I will delete your log immediately.
