Mais la belle époque se termine avec la guerre. Le phare servira d’ailleurs de tour d’observation aux soldats français puis laissé à l’abandon… En 1987, la commune de Verzenay rachète le phare et le sauve de l’effondrement. Elle réfléchit à un projet d’aménagement à vocation touristique, et en 1999, le Musée de la Vigne voit le jour.

You’re not dreaming ! The lighthouse of Verzenay is a curiosity in the lands of Champagne. Overhanging a " sea of vineyards ", the lighthouse is built in 1909, was imagined by Joseph Goulet to promote his brand of champagne in a original way. And it works! But the nice time ends with the war. The lighthouse will be of use moreover as tour of observation to the French soldiers. Then the lighthouse is neglected … In 1987, the municipality of Verzenay acquires the lighthouse and saves it from the collapse. Then she thinks about a project of development with tourist vocation. And in 1999, the Museum of the Vineyard is born.
