Melba Gully Glows

*** Awarded Best Cache & Best Cache Locaction ***

2018 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards

Melba Gully

Welcome to one of Victoria's
most beautiful parks.
At the heart of Melba Gully lies cool
rainforest, overflowing with luxuriant ferns
and giant moss-covered trees.
Melba Gully is alive with natural history
and secretive creatures.
Traces of a colourful recent past
are fading into the forest.
Patterns of light and shade shimmer
throughout the day and Glow Worms
create a wonderland at night

Although this is a night cache, we recommend arriving before nightfall to familiarize yourself with the path and also experience the wonders of Melba Gully in the daylight. There is a complete circuit walk that is not a requirement of the cache, but well worth the effort. It takes approximately 45 minutes but would be a slightly higher terrain than the cache requirements as it has steps and steep, narrow paths. An ideal way to enjoy the area is to explore during daylight, followed by a meal in the picnic area while you wait for dusk and the wonder of the Glow Worms.

Saftey
While this is a family friendly area there are some steep drop-offs so please be careful, especially with young ones.
Sturdy shoes are a must as the tracks can be slippery in the wet and there is always a chance of snakes.
Always use your torch while moving along the track at night. Only switch it off when in a safe location to better view the Glow Worms.
