Galtströms bruk - Virtual Reward 2017/2018.
[SVE] Galtströms bruk var Medelpads första och största järnbruk. Bruket anlades år 1673 av landssekreteraren Magnus Blix. Vattenkraften, skogen och hamnen gjorde att det var en lämplig plats för att anlägga ett järnbruk. Malm transporterades hit sjövägen bl. a från Utö vid Nynäshamn, men även från gruvor i Bergslagen och Uppland. I brukets skogar kolades träkol av bönderna i området. Som mest bodde 333 personer på bruket som då, i slutet av 1800-talet var Medelpads största industrianläggning.
1721 brändes bruket ner av ryssarna, men återuppbyggdes och var i drift fram till 1916. I mitten av 1800-talet började en svår kris för de svenska järnbruken, främst beroende på kraftigt minskad export till bl.a England. Och för de norrlänska järnbruken blev krisen extra kännbar eftersom man saknade egen malmbrytning. Som mest var ett dussintal järnbruk i drift i Medelpad, men efter sekelskiftet 1900 var det endast Galtström som fortfarande var igång.
Den nuvarande masugnen byggdes 1884 och ersatte en gammal ugn på samma plats. Den har varit föremål för restaurering i omgångar sedan driften lades ner 1916.
Rostugnen byggdes 1890 och även den ersatte en äldre som låg något närmare masugnen. Murrester finns idag kvar efter den äldre rostugnen.
Idag är Galtströms bruk ett riksintressant byggnadsminne sedan 1995 och ett av Medelpads största turistmål med över 60.000 besökare per år. Det ägs av SCA och bruket är väl bevarat. Här finns bland annat en fin gammal kyrka (byggd 1680), naturstig, ånglok, skogsmuseum, herrgårdsbyggnad och bagarstuga med café. Även hamnen med en ångdriven kran är bevarad. Under sommaren bjuder SCA på guidade turer och det finns även en skyltad kulturpromenad runt området för den som vill lära sig mer om det gamla bruket och de olika processerna i järnframställningen.
[ENG] Galtström was Medelpad's first and largest iron industry. The mill was founded in 1673 by the national secretary Magnus Blix. The water power, the forest and the harbor made it an appropriate place to construct an ironworks. Iron ore was transported here by sea from, among others, Utö at Nynäshamn, but also from mines in Bergslagen and Uppland. In the nearby forests, charcoal was charcoaled by the peasants in the area. At most, 333 people lived in the mill area, making it the largest industry in Medelpad in the end of the 19th century.
In 1721, the mill was burnt down by the Russians, but it was rebuilt and was in operation until 1916. In the mid 1800's, a severe crisis began for Swedish iron mills, mainly due to heavily reduced exports to, for example, England. And for the northernmost iron industry, the crisis became extraordinary as there were no iron mines close by. At the most, dozens of ironworks were in operation in Medelpad, but after the turn of 1900, only Galtström was still in operation.
The current blast furnace was built in 1884 and replaced an old oven in the same place. It has been the subject of restoration at times since its operation was taken down in 1916.
The roasting stove was built in 1890 and also replaced an elderly who lay closer to the blast furnace. Remnants from the old stove is still visible at the spot.
Today, Galtström is a nationally interesting monument since 1995 and one of Medelpad's largest tourist destinations with over 60,000 visitors a year. It is owned by SCA and the mill is well preserved. Here you will find a nice old church (built in 1680), a nature trail, steam locomotive, forest museum, manor house and a bakehouse with a café. The harbor with a steam-powered faucet is also preserved. During the summer, SCA offers guided tours and there is also a signposted cultural walk around the area for those who want to learn more about the old mill and the various processes of iron production.

Notera att du inte kan parkera vid fabriken för att ta denna cache. Förslag på parkering finns som additional waypoint. Finns även gott om andra parkeringsmöjligheter om den föreslagna parkeringen skulle vara fullsatt.
Steg ett MASUGNEN.
Du skall räkna samtliga järnband runt skorstenen på masugnen. Endast de järnband som går runt hela skorstenen skall räknas. De som har ett avbrott i en lucka eller av annan anledning inte går runt hela skorstenen skall inte medräknas. Detta tal skall adderas med de årtal som finns angivet på dessa banden (årtalet finns angivet på flera platser, årtalet skall bara medräknas en gång).
Steg två ROSTUGNEN.
Du skall räkna alla järnbanden runt skorstenen på rostugnen. Endast de järnband som går runt hela skorstenen skall medräknas. Addera antalet band med de årtal som är angivet på banden (årtalet är angivet på flera ställen, det skall bara användas en gång).
Steg tre.
Addera de två talen med varandra och sänd in detta svar till CO.
Steg fyra.
Ta en bild på fabriken/skorstenen, gärna med en geocachare med i bilden och bifoga med loggen.

This number should be added with the year given on these bands (the year is given in several places, the year should only be counted once).

You should count all the iron bands around the chimney on the stove. Only the iron strap that run around the entire chimney. Add the number of bands with the years indicated on the bands (the year is given in several places, the year should only be counted once).
Step tree.
Add the two numbers and submit this reply to CO.
Step four.
Take a picture of the factory / chimney, preferably with a geocacher in the picture and attach to the log.
