Geocache Description:

Piran je očarljivo slovensko obmorsko mestece z beneško arhitekturo in srednjeveškim mestnim jedrom. Sprehodite se mimo Tartinijevega trga vse do piranske Punte.

Piran is a charming town on the Slovenian coast, known for its Venetian architecture and medieval town centre. Take a walk past the famous Tartini Square all the way to the Punta.

2. V zapis dodaj sliko tistega, v kar si se ob obisku piranske Punte zaljubil/a.

The most beautiful town on the Slovenian coast grew with the help of salt. The Piran salt pans, established in 804, where world-class fleur de sel is still produced today using age-old methods, were the reason why the picturesque Mediterranean walled town flourished. The old port town with remnants of a medieval wall and narrow streets with closely constructed houses is protected as a cultural and historical monument. This worldly coastal town, which developed under the influence of Venice, is considered to be one of the most authentic and photogenic towns on the Adriatic coast.

This Virtual cache is set on the Piran Punta or Cape Madona, which is the western-most point of the Slovenian coast. Close to the Punta lies the deepest part of the Bay of Trieste, measuring -37,25 m deep, which is popularly called the »underwater Triglav«. At the end of the cape the Our Lady of Health Church is located. It leans against a lighthouse and a former fortress that protected the townspeople from the enemy from the sea and the danger of high waves. The lighthouse, which stands on the far edge of the cape, has always warned ships of dangerous rocks. The church was mentioned as early as the 13th century as the church of St. Clement, and after a plague epidemic in 1631 it was renamed as the Church of Our Lady of Health.

Logging tasks:

1. On the fortified wall in front of you find a white plate and send the year written on it via the message center or e-mail.
2. Add a photo of something you loved on your visit to Cape Madona in your log.
