The Cuyahoga County Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument commemorates those patriots home and on the field of all branches of military. This monument stands for the importance of nationality, personal courage and sacrifice of those who chose to serve. With every visit we pay tribute to these men and women, who wanted all men free, created equally, a United States of America.

This virtual cache is available 365 days a year, 24/7. All year long. However, this monument is in the inner city so if you are not comfortable caching in a the city after dark, please visit during daylight hours. Your visit will be to the outside of the monument, not the inside. It’s worth visiting the inside (admission is free), but not necessary for this virtual.

Street parking available in any direction, also parking decks. Be sure to put money in your parking meter if visiting during weekday working hours. Weekends are best to visit, free street parking, less congestion overall.
To claim credit for this virtual, you need to visit ALL four sides of the monument and answer a number of questions. North, East, South, and West. At each side you will find a unique plaque and unique battle grouping statue. Each question will be unique to that side. You should be facing the plaque and statue while reading the questions.

The North side - Plaque: “The Color Guard”
1) Far left side, there is a fallen soldier laying on the ground, what is the symbol on the top of his cap?
2) On the plaque itself, how many times do you see the initials, “U.S.” inscribed?
3) Find the Benchmark, a metal survey disc, about waist high. What are the numbers found on it?
The East side - Plaque: “At Short Range”
1) The Army officer that is pointing down range of the canon, what is in his left hand?
2) The soldier that has fallen to the ground, what has fallen behind him?
3) Out of the six men on the statue, how many have canteens?
The South side - Plaque: “Mortar Practice”
1) On the plaque itself, what nautical object is found in front of the ships wheel, bottom right?
2) The Navy officer behind the mortar canon, what is he reaching for; A) canteen B) hot dog C) cartridge pouch?
3) Out of the six sailors, how many are Out of uniform (shirtless)?
The West side - Plaque: “The Advance Guard”
1) How many of the six soldiers have swords?
2) The one soldier on the falling horse, is his left foot IN or OUT of the stirrup?
3) The soldier blowing his bugle, is he wearing a common “U.S.” inscribed belt buckle?
To successfully claim this virtual cache, you must correctly answer 10 of the 12 questions asked.
