Fort Smith National Historic Site
I have lived here for half my life and I have been here several times over the years. Every time I come I learn something new. This virtual is not meant to be quick park and grab. Take the time to stop by the visitor center. Pickup maps and brochures, for more information and events at Historic Site. See related web page above. There is also an App listed below. Discover the Past
From the establishment of the first Fort Smith on December 25, 1817, to the final days of Judge Isaac C. Parker's jurisdiction over Indian Territory in 1896, Fort Smith National Historic Site preserves almost 80 years of history.
Explore life on the edge of Indian Territory through the stories of soldiers, the Trail of Tears, dangerous outlaws, and the brave lawmen who pursued them.

Hours
The Park's grounds are open 365 days a year and include the paved trails along the Arkansas River and Belle Point, parking lots, picnic tables, and several excellent outdoor exhibits.
The Visitors' Center, gallows, and Commissary building are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except for the following:
Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response - As of 3/18/20, the Fort Smith National Historic Site Visitor Center is closed until further notice.
New Years Day - closed
Thanksgiving Day - closed
Christmas Day -closed
