TOP OF THE DOM Virtual Cache

Nun beginnt der Aufstieg. Bei einer Höhe von 53 Metern (4. Ebene) führt der Aufstieg an der Glockenstube vorbei. Hier lohnt sich ein Zwischenstopp und einen Blick auf die bekannteste und mit 24.000 Kilogramm und 3,22 Metern Durchmesser auch die größte frei schwingende Kirchenglocke der Welt, die St. Petersglocke, die von den Kölnern liebevoll "d'r decke Pitter" genannt wird. Sie läutet nur zu 11 verschiedenen Festtagen, wie Ostern oder Weihnachten.

Nach knapp 70 Metern führt eine Metalltreppe schließlich hoch zur Aussichtsplattform, die einen Panoramaausblick in alle Himmelsrichtungen bietet. Bei klarem Wetter ist von hier aus sogar das Siebengebirge zusehen.

Um diesen Cache zu loggen, beantworte bitte folgende Frage per Email über mein Profil (Du brauchst nicht auf eine Logfreigabe zu warten, ich melde mich, wenn etwas nicht stimmt) und erfülle folgende Aufgabe:

• Mache ein Foto von Dir und/oder Deinem GPS und der Petersglocke, d'r decke Pitter. Sollte die Glockenstube wider Erwarten geschlossen sein, dann geht auch ein Foto auf der Aussichtsplattform.
• Ganz oben auf der Aussichtsplattform findest Du eine Jahreszahl über dem Durchgang mit den Worten "Ausgang, Exit, Sortie" (Spoiler). Wie lautet diese?

This virtual cache invites you to look Cologne as well as the Cologne cathedral from above. In the end, you will enjoy a wonderful view over Cologne on the top of the southern tower in 97 meters height. However, 533 steps have to be overcome beforehand. There is no elevator.

Your ascent starts at N50° 56.458 E6° 57.446. Since 2009 there is a breakthrough through the foundations of the cathedral in the interior of the tower. There you will find the checkout and the starting point of the ascent. Please note the following rates and opening times (as of September 2022):

Last possibility to access the tower is 30 minutes before closing.

Now the ascent starts. At an altitude of 53 meters (4th level) the ascent leads past the bell-room. Here is an intermediate stop and a look at the most famous and with 24,000 kilograms and 3.22 meters in diameter also the largest free-swinging church bell in the world, the St Peter’s bell, which is called in Cologne " d'r decke Pitter". It only rings for 11 different holidays, like Easter or Christmas.

After almost 70 meters, a metal staircase finally leads up to the platform, which provides a panoramic view in all directions. In clear weather you can even see the Siebengebirge from here.

To log this virtual cache, please answer the following question by email about my profile (you do not have to wait for a log permission, I will let you know in the case something is wrong) and fulfill the following task:

• Take a picture of yourself and / or your GPS and the St Peter’s bell, d'r decke Pitter. Should the bell-room be closed, then also a photo on the top platform is suitable.
• At the top of the lookout deck you'll find a year above the passage with the words "Ausgang, Exit, Sortie" (Spoiler). Which year is written there?
