Geocache Description:

Bring your own Pencil to this location.

Carvel area has a long standing history of strong religious ties. There are many churches in the area. St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, one of those churches, as built in 1931. Many of the parishioners volunteered their time to work on the construction of the church to help reduce the cost of building. The church has a unique building plan, as it is built in the shape of a cross.

Lumber had to be carloaded from the mills in British Columbia. The railway car was detached and left on the Carvel side track. Members of the community had to unload and haul the lumber using horses to the building site. Many of the articles within the church were donated by various members of the community.
